How to care for your jewellery
Bronze is an underrated metal that, with the right care, can be worn and loved for a lifetime.
Like all natural metals, bronze will naturally tarnish over time. This is a completely normal process that happens when the metal reacts with air, moisture and the oils on your skin. You might notice your jewellery gradually becoming darker, or developing a more vintage-looking patina. Don’t worry - bringing back its original shine is easy.
Every order comes with a complimentary polishing cloth, which is the easiest way to keep your bronze jewellery looking bright and shiny. Simply give your pieces a gentle polish whenever they need a little refresh.
A little note about your polishing cloth: Don’t be alarmed if your cloth starts to turn black - this is completely normal. It’s simply the tarnish being lifted from your jewellery as you polish. Your cloth contains polishing compound, so it’s important not to wash it. Washing will remove the compound and make the cloth less effective.
You might notice a slight green tinge on your skin after wearing bronze. This is completely normal and harmless! It happens when the copper in bronze reacts with moisture, sweat and the natural oils on your skin. If you’d prefer to avoid this, you can apply a thin layer of clear nail polish to the inside of your jewellery where it comes in contact with your skin. Allow it to dry completely before wearing, and reapply as needed, as it naturally wears away.
For a deeper clean, you can also try a few simple methods:
Warm soapy water: gently wash your jewellery with a little dish soap and warm water. Use a soft cloth to clean, rinse thoroughly and dry completely.
Baking soda & lemon juice: Make a paste using baking soda and lemon juice and soak your jewellery for 10 minutes. Avoid scrubbing and baking soda can be mildly abrasive.
A few things to keep in mind
To keep your bronze jewellery looking its best for as long as possible, I recommend removing it before swimming, showering, exercising, or doing the dishes. It’s also best to avoid direct contact with perfumes, lotions, hairspray or harsh chemicals.
When you’re not wearing your pieces, store them somewehere dry - ideally in a jewellery box or pouch.
Made to Last
Standard gold-plated jewellery has a thin layer of gold. This layer wears away over time with daily use, and eventually needs replacing or replating. Unlike gold-plated pieces, you can wear your solid bronze pieces for a lifetime!
Bronze doesn’t have a surface that wears off. With a little care and the occasional polish, bronze pieces can be enjoyed for years and years - even passed through generations.
